frequently asked questions

Getting married in Prague from abroad

The questions couples from the US, UK and beyond ask me most.

Do you speak English?

Yes. English is my working language with most of my couples. I photographed weddings in New York and New Jersey from 2013 to 2018 before moving to Prague, so I know how North American and British weddings flow. I also speak Czech, Slovak and Hungarian, which helps a lot with local venues and vendors.

Can we legally get married in the Czech Republic?

Yes, foreigners can marry legally in the Czech Republic. For a civil ceremony you will need documents such as birth certificates and proof of single status, usually with an apostille and an official Czech translation, sent to the registry office well in advance. Many couples handle this with a local planner, and some do the legal part at home and have a symbolic ceremony in Prague. I am happy to recommend Prague wedding planners who do this every week.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as you can once you have your date and venue. Saturdays from May to September are the first to go, and many couples book their photographer 9 to 12 months ahead.

We live abroad. How do we meet you?

Most of my couples live outside the Czech Republic, so we start with a video call. If you are in Prague before the wedding, we can also meet for a coffee in the city.

What if it rains on our wedding day?

Rain happens, and it often makes beautiful photos. We plan covered spots near your venue in advance, like arcades, church doors and courtyards, and I bring umbrellas. Your timeline stays flexible so we can use any break in the weather.

Where do you photograph?

Mostly Prague and the Czech countryside, including châteaux like Mcely, Nimeřice and Bon Repos. I also photograph weddings in Bratislava, Budapest and Tuscany. See my guide to Prague wedding venues.

How much does it cost?

Wedding photography starts from €1,800, and your final quote depends on the hours and what you need. A 3-hour session, whether an engagement session, a portrait session or wedding portraits on a separate day, is €450.

When do we receive our photos?

You get your first photos within 48 hours, usually the next day. Your full edited gallery follows within 4 weeks of the wedding.

Can you recommend a videographer?

Yes. I work with a handful of trusted videographers whose style matches my photos, so your photos and film feel like one story.

Do you bring backup equipment?

Always. Every camera and every lens I use has a backup, and the backup gear is with me at every wedding. I am also a member of photographers’ associations, including ASSF and a Czech photographers’ association, where members support each other in a critical emergency. So your wedding is always backed up by other professionals if ever needed.

How do we reserve our date?

Send me your date and venue through the contact form. After a short video call, your date is reserved once I receive your signed contract and deposit.

Do you deliver every image you shoot?

No, I do not. I eliminate duplicate images, test shots, missed focused shots, shots with bad expressions and other images that may dilute the overall product delivery. For example, because we shoot with low apertures, sometimes we take a few extra shots to make sure we have the perfect focus. We don’t expect you to have the expertise or the time to zoom into each image to select the one with the sharpest focus, so we spend hours doing that on our end.

In another example, candid laughs and emotional tears are some of the best images from the day. Unfortunately, they can also yield some unflattering facial expressions. I might snap a few extras of any of these moments to make sure we have a great shot with the ideal expression for the moment.

With our expertise of processing millions of images each year, we eliminate ones that are duplicates and only deliver the best options.

Does your studio provide videography services?

Yes, we work with the best videographer professionals. Please note, video cannot be purchased separately from photography, only with.

What if our ceremony is in a different language?

Peter speaks fluently 3 languages (English, Slovak, Hungarian), and can understand a little in German and Russian. He has covered and is comfortable capturing many weddings in which he does not speak the primary language of the ceremony. We approach these weddings with research to understand the traditions and culture of the wedding. We also have detailed discussions with our couples before the wedding to ensure we are aware of the major moments. Lastly, Peter and his team always ensure they are attentive, alert, and lean on their expert instincts to capture candid emotions and meaningful moments.

Do you touch up all the images you deliver?

Yes, we do. Every single image Peter delivers is post produced with his unique signature style of post-production. This involves color correction, exposure adjustment, selective black and white processing, clarity adjustments, tone-mapping, and other corrections.

Many photographers will not post produce any images, or will only post produce “select” images from your wedding. This means that you may have pictures that are too dark, have strange skin tones or other common photography flaws.

How many hours do you suggest we set aside for wedding day photos?

The ideal time for wedding portraits is around 1 hour during the wedding day. We will work closely with you to help you create a perfect wedding timeline where we can plan times for portraits and other fun moments.

What happens if we go over the contracted amount of time?

We understand that not everything goes as planned during a wedding. The team will never pack up before the contracted time, and moreover, will not leave on the dot when the contracted time is up. Instead, we will ask you at the end of your contracted time whether or not you would like to extend. If you would like us to stay, I will charge the rates specified in your contract rounded to the closest 30-minute increment.

FAQ – Engagement session

When can we expect to see our photos from our engagement session?

Post-production for engagement sessions are completed 2-4 weeks after the date of the shoot. If you require the images to be completed prior to 2-4 weeks after the date of the shoot, a rush process fee will be charged.

When should we do our engagement session?

I encourage you to do your engagement session as soon as possible. The latest we suggest is at least 10-12 weeks prior to the wedding date due to the time necessary to post produce each image and complete your product order(s).

Can we schedule our engagement session for the weekend?

Because most weddings occur on weekends, we typically do not shoot engagement sessions on weekends. If you can only do your engagement session on a weekend, we can tentatively schedule your engagement session on a weekend, however, if a wedding is scheduled for that weekend, later on, we will have to reschedule your engagement session.

How many images do you typically deliver from an engagement session? From a wedding?

I typically deliver anywhere from 50-70 images per 3-hour engagement shoot and for a wedding, I typically deliver 50-80 images per hour. Keep in mind these numbers may increase or decrease depending on the flow of the day and the number of events/activities needing to be captured.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes. Often venues require the photographer to have Liability Insurance, and we are fully covered.

Do you travel to meet clients?

In some cases yes, if it can be easily coordinated. Phone chats, texting, and video calls are also used to communicate.

FAQ – Album

How long does it take to get my album?

As with our other products, production times vary. However, you can typically expect to receive your album 6 weeks after placing the order. The process prior to placing the order varies in duration depending on how quickly you respond to the instructions for the album design as well as the number of changes you request after the initial designs. Some brides complete this within a month or two; others take over a year.

Similar to the post-production process, if you require rush processing, a rush fee applies. Additional fees for rush shipping may also apply.

How many images do we get in our wedding day album?

Our signature album contains up to 60 images. If you’d like to add more images, you are welcome to do so for a small fee per additional image.

Can I add more pages to my album?

Extra pages beyond what is included in your package can be added for an additional cost. Refer to our album designer for more information!

How do I reserve you for my date?

All dates are reserved once we receive your signed contract and deposit.
