A baroque château in the forest, 45 minutes from Prague

Aerial view of Bon Repos château and its formal garden

Bon Repos is a small baroque château hidden in the forest near Lysá nad Labem, about 45 minutes from Prague. Its name means “good rest”, and that is exactly how it feels: quiet, green and private, with painted interiors and a formal garden that look wonderful in photos.

Here is what I would tell you about getting married at Bon Repos, and how we can use the château and the garden for your photos.

The venue

A château with three centuries of stories

Bon Repos was founded in 1717 by Count František Antonín Špork as a hunting lodge. Later, Archbishop Antonín Příchovský rebuilt and extended it, adding a Chinese pavilion around 1770. After decades of different owners, the estate is now privately owned and the château is used mainly for weddings and private events.

Tucked away in the forest, it feels private and calm, which makes for relaxed guests and easy photos.

Portraits

Painted rooms and a formal garden

Inside, the painted salons give getting-ready and couple portraits a timeless, almost museum-like feel. Outside, the formal garden, the pavilions and the surrounding forest give us both structure and soft, natural backgrounds within a few steps.

Practical tips

Good to know before you book

Getting there. Bon Repos is near Stará Lysá, about 45 minutes by car from Prague. The last part of the drive is a forest road, so a shuttle for guests is a good idea.

Private venue. The château is not open for casual visits, so arrange a viewing with the venue in advance.

Light. The garden is open to the sky, so I like portraits in the late afternoon, then a short walk into the trees for softer light.

Rain plan. The painted salons are beautiful for portraits if the weather changes.
